He spent over 13 years at The Alpena News, serving as sports writer, editor, page designer, and assistant managing editor. In addition to dabbling in freelance writing, James has also served as a writer and editor focusing on travel and tourism content for Red Oak Local, a Michigan-based publisher. As a food journalist, James has published work with The Takeout and Tasting Table, specializing in fast food news and the latest snacking trends.

James holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from Michigan State University.
