  • Laura won the Margaret Raynal Fiction Award in 2008 and 2010 for her surrealist short stories.
  • She received a Writers of the Future Runner Up mention in 2020 for her science fiction story "Down We Go."
  • Her apple pie mead won Best in Class and Runner Up Best in Show at the Blue Ridge Beltane Mead Competition in 2010.

Experience

Born in the California Bay Area, Laura has always had a love affair with food. Her proximity to Michelin-starred restaurants and a wealth of locally grown ingredients — combined with a mild case of taste aphasia — has only deepened her passion for good cooking over time. She has previously been published in The Huffington Post, Ranker, Study.com, Movoto, the Digital Game Museum, and the Los Altos Town Crier. She adores cooking for herself and her loved ones, and considers her creamy chicken piccata, clam chowder, and mapo tofu to be her best dishes. In 2025, she joined The Takeout's writing team. She still takes time to master 100-year-old family recipes and brews her own wine or mead when she has the chance. She makes simply the best molasses ginger snap cookies.

Education

Laura earned a Bachelor's Degree in English with a minor in Ancient Civilizations from Randolph Macon Woman's College in 2010.
