Review: I Tried Crumbl's Fan Favorite Cookie Lineup And There's A Clear Standout

There are certain sweet treats that lend themselves to divisiveness, and cookies are definitely one of them. Some prefer soft cookies and others like more of a crunch. I love a crispy edge and a gooey center, personally. Everyone has their own ideas of what a proper cookie should be. All of it matters, because the cookie market is a big one. In the United States alone, cookies are a $7.6 billion business, according to data from Ken Research. That's a billion with a b.

That number completely makes sense for the amount of cookie shops that seem to keep popping up. All of the aesthetically cute storefronts offering varying versions of cookie and cookie adjacent confections come with their own styles and flavors. With a market delivering billions, there's room for all of them. Crumbl is likely one of the most recognizable of the crew with an equally recognizable pink box. The whole Crumbl lineup lends itself to a cookie review, and people have a lot of feelings about the cookie giant. So it's no surprise that Crumbl fan favorites are always especially popular. 

For all of the smitten cookie enthusiasts, there are also Crumbl critics, but that's just the way the cookie crumbles. I tried six cookies from this week's People's Choice Week Crumbl lineup, and I'm ready to talk about it.

I tried all six cookies from this week's Crumbl menu as soon as the box hit my hands. They were all room temperature, and I sampled each cookie and based the review on criteria such as flavor, texture, freshness, and more. 

Since Crumbl cookies have a reputation of laying it on thick with the sweetness levels, that was also another consideration for each cookie. If a cookie had multiple components and toppings, I tasted them as a whole as well as on their own.

This week's Crumbl cookies are a special batch because it's customer votes that landed each one a spot on the menu. The fan favorite chocolate cookie is the S'mores Brownie Cookie racking up 27,627 votes. It's a good start as far as I'm concerned. Both the cookie and brownie components play super well together instead of trying to steal the spotlight. The brownie is ultra-rich and the graham cracker crust makes it sing.

Not only is the graham cracker full of buttery goodness, but the little dusting of crumbs on top is a nice touch to the s'mores cookie. The graham cracker streusel meets marshmallow buttercream on top of the whole thing, and there's milk chocolate drizzled all over. The cookie brownie combo with all the bells and whistles is legit, as is the big melty marshmallow perched right on top. The S'mores Brownie Cookie deserves the votes it received, and captures the essence of s'mores deliciously.

I love the flood of banana themed sweet treats appearing everywhere. Sign me up for the banana cream cold foam and iced lattes. I'm invested and will always sample something with a dose of banana fanfare. Crumbl's Banana Cream Pie Cookie earned even more votes than the S'mores Brownie Cookie. More than 30,000 people voted for a banana cream comeback, and Crumbl delivered the goods. This cookie takes all of the components of a yummy banana cream pie and shoves them into a sweet cookie treat. 

Crumbl is egregiously generous with the vanilla pudding, however. Instead of a smooth, velvety experience, it weighs down the cookie and leaves it so soggy it's challenging to even pick up. The baked pie crust base that should provide a rich buttery flavor is sadly a drowning mess, and not even fresh banana slices and the standard vanilla wafer top can save it. I couldn't even get past the first bite. 

Overall it's just too sloppy and sugary. The whole cookie leaves you with a bad aftertaste. If you enjoy globs of vanilla pudding, you'll probably love Crumbl's Banana Cream Pie Cookie, but I am definitely not a fan.

Speaking of divisive desserts, let's turn our attention to Crumbl's Dubai-Style Chocolate Brownie. It's a food craze that swept the globe and still has a noticeable presence. It's not for everyone, but there's no denying it's everywhere. From viral cups of strawberries done the Dubai way to specialty Dubai chocolate-inspired coffees honoring the trend, it really did make a mark. I'm not surprised that more than 35,000 Crumbl fans stand on business behind the Dubai-Style Chocolate Brownie.

The impossibly soft and decadent chocolate brownie serves as the base of this cookie, and things only get better from there. There's a hefty layer of pistachio filling and crunchy Kataifi, followed by another enticing layer of milk chocolate and more pistachio cream. In theory it should be a saccharine disaster, but for some reason, it works for this Crumbl treat. The rich chocolate, chewy brownie, and crispy Kataifi are a winning combination.

Sometimes you just want a snickerdoodle. Crumbl fans clearly agree, and more than 27,000 of them voted for the Snickerdoodle Skillet Cookie. The fan votes for this cookie swept the spiced flavor category, and probably spread a lot of joy among snickerdoodle lovers. A good snickerdoodle isn't just fun to say, it's delightful to eat as well.

Crumbl takes a vanilla cookie and rolls her around in cinnamon sugar. It could have stopped there and been just fine. However, it wouldn't be a Crumbl cookie if there wasn't something else to add an abundance of sugar. There's a generous dollop of cinnamon mousse, melted white drippings strewn across the surface of the cookie, and a cinnamon streusel finish. 

It's a solid snickerdoodle. The dollop of icing on top is too sweet for my liking but can be enjoyed in small doses, I suppose. I'd probably remove it, warm the cookie, and add a scoop of vanilla ice cream instead.

While this week's Crumbl roster features some fan favorites, there are some newbies present, too. To celebrate nine years full of Crumbl cookies, the chain offers a brand new Ice Cream Cake Sandwich Cookie. It sounds like a dream come true in theory, but there are some issues. While ice cream cake is meant to be the sweet inspo behind this cookie debut, there's nothing ice cream-like about it.

That being said, if you have a super-high tolerance for sweetness, Crumbl's newbie is a solid choice for you. The sandwich part of the name is accurate, with two full size sugar cookies and vanilla buttercream in a pretty pink hue between them. There's a dash of rainbow sprinkles to add to the cookie's whimsy. 

One Crumbl sugar cookie is a punch of sweetness right to the taste buds. Two seems like a lot to handle. I appreciate the effort to pay homage to a classic ice cream sandwich, but the double cookie situation with an avalanche of sugary icing is overkill.

Off the heels of the sugar-heavy ice cream sandwich cookie, Crumbl's Pick for the week is the last treat in this review. Crumbl marbles dark chocolate and a vanilla cookie to achieve a cookies and cream vibe in its Cookies & Cream White Chip Cookie. This popular flavor that frequently makes the rounds among bakeries and grocery store items is topped with sweet, white chips and drizzled with a sugary white drizzle. It wouldn't be a cookies and cream item without the obligatory cookies and cream, so that's how Crumbl finishes this confection.

Normally, I steer clear of cookies and cream flavored treats because they come off way too sweet. This one from Crumbl, though, was much milder than I anticipated. Since many Crumbl cookies have a reputation of being offputtingly sweet, it was a nice surprise of balanced flavors. 

This particular cookie also has a great crispy factor all around the edges. The icing finish has the potential to knock it down a few rungs, but thankfully it's a modest amount that does not overwhelm.

The Crumbl cookies this week offer a mix of successes and flops. By far, my least favorite is the Banana Cream Pie Cookie. It's swimming in so much pudding that it's practically impossible to eat without having pudding fingers the entire time. The messiness combined with the relentless sweetness does not do it any favors. The Ice Cream Cake Sandwich Cookie also suffers from extreme sugar content. 

The Snickerdoodle Skillet Cookie is okay. I wouldn't not eat it if it was put in front of me, but I also wouldn't go out of my way to order it again. The Cookies & Cream White Chip Cookie is good, and the S'mores Brownie Cookie is even better. 

The greatest of the bunch, though, is not a cookie at all — it's the Dubai-Style Chocolate Brownie. If this flavor profile is your thing, it's a delight. It's by far the clear front runner of this week's cookies at Crumbl, and I wouldn't hesitate to have another.
