5 Finds Costco Already Discontinued In 2026 (So Far)

Add The Takeout on Google:

Costco is always releasing new items for members to enjoy, but it's no secret that some of those products fall flat and get discontinued. Throughout the years, there have been many discontinued Costco items that were once fan favorites (especially in the bakery section), and 2026 is no exception, with five items to date ending their run at the grocery giant — some of which were more upsetting than others.

As is often the case when products are discontinued, Costco has gotten rid of some due to a general lack of popularity. But it has also ruffled a few feathers by parting ways with well-liked and well-received items. Whether they were removed because a partnership ended or to make room for newer goods that wound up taking their spots, each item on this list is now absent from the store's shelves. This means that we won't be including any of the several seasonal items that are currently out of rotation, and will instead be focusing on those that we believe are unlikely to return anytime soon to Costco.

Combo Calzone

Starting things off with the only food court item on this list, the Combo Calzone was relatively short-lived, and removed from the store earlier this year. The calzone first appeared at select Costco locations in May 2025 and was immediately compared to the food court's combo pizza that was discontinued in 2020. However, after this initial test run for the calzone was deemed a success, it became a nationwide option in March 2026, only to be removed two months later in May.

While some appreciated the calzone's similarities to the combo pizza, others felt that the item simply wasn't as good as the pre-2020 dish. In fact, the calzone struggled to stand out compared to the pizza that Costco still sells to this day, making it even less appealing to many customers.

But with the calzone's discontinuation came also room for a new item at the Kirkland Signature food court, and Costco was quick to fill the void. The food court's chicken strips were first spotted on May 4 and, while our own Dennis Lee was unimpressed by the new Costco item, it's been on the menu ever since.

Kirkland Signature Helles-Style Lager

Switching gears to a product from Costco's iconic private label, Kirkland Signature, and Deschutes Brewery, the Kirkland Signature Helles-Style Lager made its debut back in 2024. The beverage impressed beer fans and experts alike upon its arrival at the massive retailer — so much so that it received the silver and bronze medals at The World Beer Cup in 2025 and 2026. However, all good things must come to an end, and the Munich-style beer was discontinued following the end of Costco's partnership with Deschutes Brewery in July 2026.

The reason behind this severed relationship was never outright explained, but some speculated that it came down to a lack of sales or demand for beer overall at Costco. "I suspect there isn't [sic] been the volume needed to maintain a private label," theorized a Redditor . Nevertheless, the beer did find an audience, which has mourned its discontinuation. "Damn, this is the best beer at Costco," lamented another Redditor. Meanwhile, an ardent customer added, "[I] bought 10 half racks in Tucson after seeing this."

Kirkland Signature Chocolate Whey Protein

Protein-related products have become even more popular in recent years, which makes it all the more shocking that the Kirkland Signature Chocolate Whey Protein was discontinued by Costco earlier this year. The item's removal was discovered online by Costco members back in May, and considering that it was the only powder of its kind sold by the chain's private label, it left a large hole in the store's selection of protein products.

This is even more remarkable due to the generally positive impression that the powder had been making on Costco customers. The whey protein was first spotted back in October 2024, and quickly impressed consumers with its flavor. "I thought it tasted great!" remarked one Redditor soon after the product's launch. Others held similar sentiments, with one pinpointing its texture as being quite enjoyable. "It's very creamy, I like it," wrote the commenter, who added, "I threw 4 scoops of it into my Ninja blender with ice, water, a handful of blueberries, and a banana and it tastes amazing."

Ultimately, the belief online is that the Kirkland Signature item was removed due to the whey protein shortage that has ravaged the United States in recent months. While this means there is a more legitimate chance that the protein powder does return if and when the shortage is rectified, only time will tell what the future holds for the discontinued product.

Kirkland Signature Ground Sirloin and Loin of Beef Patties

The Kirkland Signature Ground Sirloin and Loin of Beef Patties were reportedly discontinued this past summer, and like the whey protein, many believe the primary reason for this discontinuation is cost. Its 85% lean distinction makes it much more expensive for Costco to produce. While this hasn't been confirmed, the constant increase in the price of beef at stores across the country this year is as strong an explanation as any for the removal.

As for how the product was received when it was available at Costco, the frozen product was best known for featuring 18 ⅓-pound burger patties in each bag, which cost around $30. These factors were enticing on paper, but didn't overcome the patties' perceived weaknesses among many Costco members. For example, some folks online noted that the beef's taste had gone downhill over the years; as one Reddit user explained, "We no longer buy the frozen sirloin patties because they just taste gross/off, almost metallic-like." Meanwhile, other Costco shoppers online noted that 85% lean beef was simply not enough fat for their preferred burgers.

Great Range Premium Bison

The second discontinued Costco meat product, and the only item not produced by Kirkland Signature on this list is the Great Range Premium Bison. The ground meat was tagged with the infamous black asterisk this past summer, which informs customers that the product would no longer be sold at the massive retailer. This is yet another instance where it's not well known why the meat was removed from store shelves, but considering some folks online have noted that they hadn't seen the ground bison at their local warehouse in years (or, in some cases, at all), you can likely chalk it up to the unique style of meat not being a priority for Costco.

However, its discontinuation doesn't necessarily mean the meat was unpopular. Ground bison meat is remarkably similar to ground beef in terms of both taste and use, and the product was considered a must-buy among a number of Costco members. "I'm devastated because this is one of my core staples and a big part of why I have a Costco membership," explained one Reddit user when they first learned about the ground bison's discontinuation. Additionally, the bison meat was exceptionally lean, so its absence hits especially hard for those looking for freshly packaged meat to replace the lean frozen sirloin patties that were also removed from the store.
