Wingstop's Sour Patch Kids Wicked Punch Wings Are Outrageous And Delicious

Add The Takeout on Google:

As we continue rolling through the 'ber months, more chains jump on the seasonal hype bandwagon. With the PSL blitz each year, it's easy to imagine pumpkin spice standing alone in its association with fall, but Wingstop is branching out from fall spices — and shaking up something sweet and sour. Inspired by one of America's favorite Halloween gummy candies, this holiday, Wingstop is bringing Sour Patch Kids to its chicken wings.

The flavor is called Sour Patch Wicked Punch, and no doubt like you, I was skeptical about this limited-time release. It's a deep, red glaze that is fruity, sweet, and tart — and features pulverized bits of Sour Patch Kids sprinkled on top. I was lucky enough to be granted an early taste of Wingstop's adventurous, candy-forward flavor to determine if these are a must-try, and yet another way Wingstop is killing it right now, or if you're better off sticking with your go-to favorite Wingstop flavor.

Methodology

This concept is wild, so my expectations were relatively low, to be honest. However, my goal was to answer the burning question of whether these were any good. In order to be enjoyable, the wings needed to have a sweet — but not overpowering — flavor that complemented the chicken, without tasting too much like a bite from a Halloween candy bucket. I also wanted wings that worked well with the little bits of candy on top. These candies would ideally be an accent, and less a starring role, when it came to texture and flavor.

Sour Patch Kids Wicked Punch Taste Test

When I picked up my order, I had a few minutes to talk to the crew at Wingstop. They had previously sampled the new flavor, and were wholly unsure how to feel about the latest addition. They commented that it was good, just weird. This set the stage for my own tasting.

Unboxing the meal, taking photos, and adding the wings to plates, I was most struck by just how red the wings were. It took a few moments to register the little gummy bits on top, and since they're translucent, it was a little scary to see what almost looked like little glass pieces on the chicken.

Pushing expectations (and even looks) aside, my first bite revealed a sweet and not at all spicy morsel. The flavor reminded me of orange chicken, but with a berry flavor instead of the citrus one. Though the gummy candies looked like they were going to be noticeable in every bite, they weren't. The chicken texture retained its crunchy exterior, holding the sauce well, and not going mushy — even with the gummy bits on the wings.

Verdict: Are these any good?

Yes, these are ridiculously good. They shouldn't be this good. Orange chicken lovers will enjoy them, and anyone who typically goes for a sweeter sauce or glaze on their chicken will find these annoyingly delicious.

Admittedly, the idea of pulverized Sour Patch Kids gets odder and more horrific the longer you linger on it, but it felt well suited for the Halloween season. Wingstop's incorporation of this vibrant flavor is to be commended. It sounds so bizarre, gummy candy lovers will struggle to ignore this release, and will ultimately be charmed by the taste, just as my husband and I were. They were so good, after this flavor disappears, I would immediately consider it one of the limited-time Wingstop flavors that deserve a comeback.

Availability and pricing

While delicious, you don't have long to enjoy this sweet release. On October 23, 2026, Sour Patch Kids Wicked Punch is available for early access to Wingstop's fast food loyalty program, Club Wingstop. For everyone else, the release is slated for October 27. However, you'll have to act fast. This Halloween-focused promotion will only be around until November 5, or until supplies run out. If you're not already a Club Wingstop member, signing up online is super easy with your name, email, password, and birthday (if you choose). With this membership, you'll earn points and perks, like early tastes of flavors like this Sour Patch Kids Wicked Punch glaze.

The Sour Patch Kids Wicked Punch is an option across all of Wingstop's proteins. I sampled the boneless wings, bone-in wings, and tenders — with the crispy tenders being my favorite for this particular glaze. Though it's a limited-time run, you'll select it the same way you do your other flavors, so the pricing structure will also be the same. For instance, at my location in central Florida, if you're looking at a 10-piece combo, it's $15.79 for boneless wings and $17.19 for bone-in wings, or a mixture of the two.
