We know, we know — "grocery store cookies" and "high quality" aren't two phrases most people find synonymous. Though delicious, many mainstream packaged cookies are riddled with a number of unsavory ingredients, including artificial colors and flavors, high fructose corn syrup, hidden additives, and more. And while we understand that cookies aren't meant to be "healthy" per se, there's something to be said for using ingredients that are whole or easily traced, especially when it comes to snacks we enjoy often.

In the upcoming post, we're looking past mere taste and shining a light on what we consider some of the best, highest-quality cookies out there. From organic to non-GMO, the upcoming list of grocery store cookies stands out from what's standard on most supermarket shelves. Sound intriguing? Stay tuned. We're revealing the grocery cookies featuring the high-quality ingredients your taste buds have been longing for.

1. Partake

If you're in the market for an allergen-free cookie made from high-quality ingredients, consider giving Partake a try. The brand's products and facilities are free from the top nine allergens, and each cookie is produced with non-GMO, gluten-free, and vegan ingredients. Denise Woodard, founder and CEO of Partake, faced devastating hardship after her daughter developed life-threatening food allergies. In response, Woodard developed clean, allergy-friendly snacks that even people on the most restrictive diets could enjoy, eventually evolving into the Partake brand as it is known today.

Partake offers a variety of cookie flavors with seasonal, traditional, and creative options up for the taking. Several Partake cookie options are available at Kroger, including classic flavors like snickerdoodle and chocolate chip. If you're looking for something outside of the norm, try giving a variety pack with Partake Confetti and Chocolate Chip Cookies a try (also available on Amazon), or sample a number of the brand's grahams, wafers, and several other interesting flavors.

Aside from being free from most allergens, Partake cookies also feature squeaky-clean ingredients, including certified gluten-free oats, organic light brown sugar, and even milled flaxseed. Of course, you'll still need to check your Partake cookie package yourself before snacking, especially if your allergies are severe — as of 2025, coconut cropped up on the Partake production line, which may pose a problem for sensitive individuals.

2. Annie's

Co-founded by Annie Withey in 1989, Annie's Homegrown has expanded into a large-scale business with many high-quality and widely available options lining grocery store shelves. Though Annie's is known for making a variety of delicious, all-natural foods for folks to enjoy (including the all-too-popular mac and cheese made from organic pasta and real cheese), this clean-ingredient brand also pumps out snack-worthy cookies, many of which feature organic ingredients.

We've spotted Annie's cookies at a variety of grocers, including Walmart, Target, and Kroger. One such variety, Annie's Organic Chocolate Chip Cookie Bites, received rave reviews from Amazon shoppers enamored with its crispy texture and scrumptious flavor. The secret? These cookies contain organic wheat flour, organic chocolate chips, organic cane sugar, and even organic molasses. Other high-quality cookie favorites produced by Annie's include Annie's Organic Friends Bunny Grahams and S'mores Graham Sandwich Cookies. Delish!

3. Back to Nature

Back to Nature began in the 1960s as a health shop in California before it flourished into the reputable and widely available brand you may spot at your local Kroger or Target today. The brand produces a variety of snacks including crackers and nuts, but also pumps out several types of cookies whose ingredients are shockingly minimal, all while still achieving a satisfying texture and taste.

Rather than reinventing the wheel, Back to Nature often remixes classic flavors with a healthier spin. Consider the brand's Classic Creme Sandwich Cookies: Unlike the original Oreo, which contains artificial flavors, Back to Nature's contain no artificial flavors and are non-GMO. And though not typically organic or gluten-free, Back to Nature cookies, like the Peanut Butter Creme Sandwich Cookies, often contain high-quality, simple ingredients, including unbleached wheat flour, sea salt, brown rice syrup, and cane sugar, all of which are a breath of fresh air compared to the typical packaged classic cookie originals.

4. Tate's Bake Shop

Founded by Kathleen King, Tate's Bake Shop is a real-life bakery stationed in Southampton, New York, though its high-quality cookies can be found in markets nationwide. Tate's approach involves baking with "real" ingredients, meaning you'll find little to no additives or hard-to-pronounce ingredients in its cookies. The brand's treats come in a variety of flavors and types, with classic, gluten-free, and seasonal varieties available. We even spotted Tate's Bake Shop Oatmeal Raisin at Walmart, a fan favorite with near-perfect 5-star reviews.

The ingredients found in Tate's Bake Shop cookies are ridiculously similar to those in a recipe for homemade chocolate chip cookies: Unbleached flour, brown sugar, butter, baking soda, and eggs are simply stated as part of the ingredients right there on the package. The result? Thin, delicious, and unmistakably crispy cookies you can savor without the effort of whipping up a batch yourself.

While Tate's Bake Shop cookies may not carry organic or non-GMO labels (the two are not the same) like some other high-quality cookie brands on this list, their simplistic makeup is a breath of fresh air for people wanting to ditch artificial and dig into something real. Pair the chocolate chip cookies with a slice of fresh gouda (if you're into that) or keep it classic with a refreshing glass of cold milk.

5. Simple Mills

The Simple Mills brand seems to be the "clean" answer to General Mills and all other processed brand names out there, especially for those looking to enjoy snacks without all the ick. Sold at Walmart, Kroger, and a number of other marketplaces, Simple Mills offers several cookie types and flavors with high-quality ingredients that are actually good for you too.

Take Simple Mills' Gluten-Free Chocolate Chip Cookies, for example — voted best gluten-free cookies on the market by our staff, they contain a minimal ingredient list and consist of unexpected yet nutritious additions like almond flour and flaxseeds. And it makes sense — Simple Mills was founded by Katlin Smith, who discovered firsthand through her own health journey the transforming power that good food can have on the body. Simple Mills now partners with farmers who actively participate in regenerative agriculture practices, a method described by the company as a holistic approach to ranching and farming to grow ingredients. The brand's products are also non-UPF Verified, ensuring that its snacks stay minimally processed.

Of course, gluten-free chocolate chip cookies aren't the only varieties to savor from the Simple Mills brand. Others, including Crunchy Double Chocolate Chip Almond Flour Cookies, Sweet Thins Chocolate Brownie Cookies, and Sweet Thins Honey Cinnamon Cookies, top the list for options that are comparatively nutritious yet still incredibly tasty.

6. MadeGood

MadeGood is a family-owned business founded by Nima Fotovat, his wife, and his siblings Salma and Sahba. The goal? To produce a line of goodies with high-quality ingredients that even your family will feel good about. All MadeGood cookies are organic and non-GMO, and, according to the brand's website, many of the ingredients can be traced back to their exact location.

Unlike a few other high-quality cookie brands on the list, MadeGood cookies offer several totally unique flavors to savor, including red velvet and salted caramel. You can also choose between soft-baked and crunchy textures, making MadeGood cookies a great pick for customers looking to flex more control over snack time.

You can find MadeGood cookies at Walmart and other grocery retailers, but you could also just as easily snag them online. We found the MadeGood Red Velvet Soft-Baked Cookies on Amazon and were impressed — unlike other red velvet-flavored snacks that depend on artificial dyes to achieve their deep scarlet hue, MadeGood sticks to beet powder and other natural sources of color to achieve its signature red velvet appearance.

7. Earth's Best

Got kids? If so, you're probably obsessed with providing them with the best diet possible while they're still young. That's why we recommend Earth's Best as one of the best grocery store cookies for little tummies. Sold at Kroger, Walmart, and a variety of other grocery retailers, Earth's Best is committed to sourcing quality, good-for-you ingredients, resulting in cookies that are organic, non-GMO, and free of artificial flavors. Earth's Best also boasts internally established food safety limits, vetted for lower heavy metals in compliance with U.S. and EU standards and tested by a third party to ensure metals stay within limits.

Now, we'll admit Earth's Best selection is a bit limited compared to other brands, but that doesn't mean you should pass them up. There are plenty of options for babies, toddlers, and children to enjoy, including Crunchin' Grahams Honey Sticks. Each snack is chock full of goodness, and some, like the brand's organic breakfast biscuits, include nourishing ingredients like organic dried blueberries, whole wheat flour, and rolled oats.

Best of all, most Earth's Best snacks feature sugar amounts much lower than typical cookies. In many instances, your kiddo will consume less than 4 to 5 grams of added sugar per serving, which is sometimes as many as 11 cookies. Sweet!

8. Siete

Siete is a Mexican-American-owned brand that looks to bring the rich flavors of Latin cuisine right into your snack cabinet. The brand puts a Mexican twist on what are often lower-carb, healthier options as founders Miguel and Veronica Garza seek to help others overcome health obstacles without sacrificing flavor. Grabs like the brand's grain-free Mexican Shortbread cookies are non-GMO and feature minimal ingredients, allowing cookie fans to add more variety to their snacking routine while staying within necessary dietary limits.

For those with celiac disease or looking to ditch wheat, it helps to know that beyond non-GMO products, Siete also offers cookies with gluten-free ingredients. We found a number of Siete offerings at our local Pick 'n Save and Walmart with many interesting varieties, including Strawberries and Cream Grain-Free Cookies, Hint of Mexican Vanilla Chocolate Chip Cookies, and Mexican Wedding Cookies.

9. 365 Organic Chocolate Chip Cookie Bites

365 Whole Foods Market is a brand from the ever-popular Whole Foods health food store, known for offering natural and organic products to health-conscious shoppers across the nation. It comes as no surprise then that the brand produces cookies that follow much the same protocol — minimal, high-quality, non-GMO ingredients that are sustainably sourced through Whole Foods' own Sourced for Good program.

One of 365 Whole Foods Market's most popular cookie options is the Organic Chocolate Chip Cookie Bites, which garner rave reviews and pack plenty of pure ingredients like organic wheat flour, organic cane sugar, and even organic chocolate chips. Of course, Whole Foods offers more than just the typical chocolate chip variety — expect other classic flavors including Organic Vanilla Animal Cookies, Chocolate Sandwich Creme cookies, and more, all of which feature similar natural, high-quality ingredients you'll be hard-pressed to find in most traditionally marketed packaged snack cookies.

10. Goodie Girl

Goodie Girl is one of our favorite brands for flavorful gluten-free cookies, but its wheat-free attributes are only one reason that make it worth buying. Like so many other options on the list, Goodie Girl is committed to packing high-quality ingredients into every flavorful bite.

Goodie Girl was founded by Shira Berk, a former musician, self-trained baker, and founder of Goodie Girl Café in Tribeca, New York City. Goodie Girl is dedicated to pure ingredients and, as such, produces cookies that are kosher-certified, gluten-free, and utilize sustainably sourced chocolate and palm oil.

In 2025, concerns were raised about alleged dangerous ingredients found in Thin Mint Girl Scout cookies — thankfully, Goodie Girl has options just as good. We've personally tried several of the brand's cookie varieties and can assure you that the high-quality add-ins shine in the flavor. The Mint Cookie and Fudge Striped are among our favorites, but other varieties, like Goodie Girl S'mores Sandwich Cookies, are a welcome break from the norm, especially for those looking to enjoy gluten-free yet distinctly flavored snacks.

11. Yumi

We'd never heard of the Yumi brand until now, which is a real shame, considering all it has to offer. You can spot this all-natural brand at Target, with its Chunky Choco Chip cookie flavor packing 4 grams of plant protein per serving and 40% less sugar, according to claims on the label. Though not organic, the cookies are non-GMO and gluten-free, and also feature a variety of good-for-you additions including sunflower butter, oats, coconut sugar, and sweet potato (a veggie which can also be turned into healthy, irresistibly crisp chips).

As a cookie brand less commonly seen on store shelves, we did a little digging and found that Yumi has an approach to food rooted in nutrition and science. The brand's co-founder, Angela Sutherland, frustrated by the lack of nutritious options, developed Yumi as an alternative to traditional additive-laden cookies and snacks. Sutherland has since recruited a handful of trained health professionals to ensure Yumi's products pack nutrition to the max. Though Yumi's cookie options only include the Choco Chip Cookie and Double Choco Chip varieties as of September 2026, other snack types, including breakfast bar options, also exist for fans wishing to explore more of what the brand has to offer.

12. Rip Van

Also found at Target, Rip Van Leos cookies contain less added sugar, fewer calories, and more nutritious prebiotic fiber than traditional store-bought cookies, and many of the varieties are vegan and feature non-GMO ingredients too. The brand started when two college buddies, Rip and Marco, sought to continue snack traditions enjoyed by Rip in the Netherlands. The venture eventually expanded well past the college campus before finally exploding into the brand it is today. According to its website, everything crafted by Rip Van Leos is crafted with quality in mind — no preservatives or artificial ingredients here!

As far as flavors go, expect the brand's varieties to include Rip Van Leos Cookies and Creme Sandwich Cookies, Golden Vanilla Sandwich Cookies, and Dark Chocolate Wafer Cookies. A quick scan of Rip Van cookies and creme ingredients confirmed the brand's claims were true — the list is very short, containing wheat flour, oil, sugar, cocoa, and only a handful of other ingredients. Still, we should note that some cookies produced by Rip Van do feature stevia leaf extract. If that bothers you, it may be best to skip the brand for another all-natural, high-quality cookie grab instead.

13. Happy Tot

Happy Tot was developed in 2003 when its founder, Shazi Visram, dreamt of offering healthy, nutritious food to children, one organic, environmentally responsible snack at a time. Today, the brand continues to offer a variety of cookie options that your baby, toddler, child, and even adult taste buds will enjoy.

Happy Tot's parent company, Happy Family Organics, claims to be the largest organic infant feeding brand to snag the Clean Label Project's Purity Award. You can tell the level of commitment by which the company approaches baby food — a quick glance over the label for Happy Tot's Vanilla Multi-Grain cookies reveals nourishing ingredients that include organic wheat flour, spelt flour (often considered a healthier substitute for regular flour when used correctly), butter, honey, and lemon extract.

Happy Tot also offers Strawberry Multi-Grain Cookies and produces a number of teething wafers suitable for little gums. And while certainly not the cheapest pack of cookies we've ever seen at $5 for 4.4 ounces compared to the standard $3 it costs for 8 ounces of conventional animal crackers, it's still a good option, especially if snacks like these remain a once-in-a-while purchase.

14. Methodology

We selected the grocery store cookies with high-quality ingredients for this post based on several factors. The chosen brands demonstrate a commitment to either minimal or whole ingredients, and many (though not all) hold specific certifications, such as non-GMO, organic, or non-UPF verified. As always, pricing, availability, and other details mentioned in this article are subject to change.
