This New Costco Cake Comes With An Italian Twist — And We Want It In The US Bakeries Now

Add The Takeout on Google:

Costco's dropped a new cake, but before you get too excited — it's not available in the U.S., or at least, not yet. (Here's to hoping, because this one's right up my alley.) A Canadian Costco enthusiast account, @costcofindsca, recently posted a video on Instagram showing a new big ol' pastry in the bakery section. This one's inspired by a favorite Italian dessert and popular ending to plenty of meals at red sauce joints: cannoli.

According to the video, this cake features soft cake layers with a ricotta-mascarpone frosting, along with miniature chocolate chips, and is topped with an actual cannoli. It costs $26.99 CAD, which comes out to about $20 USD, and the label shows the cake weighing 1.65 kilograms, or a hefty 3.65 pounds. As with all Costco bakery items, that's quite a bit of food, but we all know the drill. One commenter on the Instagram post already has a feeling the cakes will move quickly, noting, "A cannoli cake in the bakery case is going to move fast, costcofindsca. New desserts at Costco rarely stay a secret for long."

Costco has previously sold Italian-inspired bakery goods in the past

Though we might not have cannoli cakes down in the United States as of yet, Costco has previously sold other Italian-inspired desserts here, like the seasonal tiramisu cheesecake, along with previous iterations of tiramisu bar cake. It's also sold entire huge portions of tiramisu in the past (which, regrettably, I've never tried). I've also seen packaged tiramisu cups, though those weren't Kirkland-branded.

The warehouse club also sold DIY cannoli kits at one point, according to users in Costco enthusiast groups on Facebook. Knowing how these things work, if they're a hot seller in Canada, perhaps we'll get these cannoli-inspired cakes down here. There are some things, though, that will likely remain up there just for our neighbors, like poutine sold at Costco's food stand. One hopeful commenter asked on @costcofindsca video, "Is this just Canada?" For now, we're not seeing any online chatter about the cannoli cake being sold here. As neighbors, we'll be waiting with bated breath to see if they make it down to our part of the continent.
