This Costco Food Court Favorite Is Coming Back — But Not In The Way Fans Were Wanting

Add The Takeout on Google:

Costco's food court is always evolving with new, tasty menu items, but it can also bring back nostalgic classics that some consumers have missed. Most recently, Costco has been teasing the limited-time return of twisted churros to the grocery chain's food courts across the United States. However, many fans have already noticed that the returning churros are different from the ones they once knew and loved: The retailer will actually be selling its newer version of the sweet treat.

For those unaware, the thin, straight Costco churros were a beloved staple of Costco's food courts from the 1990s until 2020, when the item was temporarily removed from the menu. Costco brought back the sweet snack in 2021 with a different recipe that swapped out the straight churros for the new twisted ones. Many were quite upset about the change, which preceded yet another discontinuation in early 2024. And while Costco released the Kirkland Signature Caramel Churro Sundae earlier this year, this limited return is the first time in years that fans will get to enjoy the treat in a traditional form.

Fans are hesitant to get excited about the returning churros at Costco

While many have been begging for the return of the Costco churros, others are upset that it isn't what they had hoped the grocery giant would deliver. Just as the chicken strips at Costco's food court fell short of our expectations, the twisted churros have already been met with mixed reactions, with many fans writing them off before they've even been added back to the menu. "The twisted ones ain't it!!" read one Instagram comment. "Bring back the ORIGINAL Costco Churro!!!"

Much like the mysterious origin of the churro itself, we may never truly know why Costco swapped its popular straight churros with the more controversial twisted version. And though they have generated plenty of discontent from some Costco members, others are quite excited to hear about the churros' upcoming return. In fact, some even came up with great uses for the sugary treat.

For example, dipping the churro in the Kirkland Signature Caramel Churro Sundae has been recommended by some fans online, as this would make the creamy dessert even sweeter than it already is. And dunking the churro in a mocha freeze from the food court is a great choice for those who enjoy Costco's coffee drink.
