This Under-$6 Fall Pie Is Back At Costco's Bakery (But Some Shoppers Think It's Way Too Soon)

Before the leaves have turned or the air has cooled, it's already fall — at least, if supermarkets are any indication. Browse virtually any aisle, and you'll likely be inundated with dozens of varieties of pumpkin products. It's August, and pumpkin spice season is already upon us.

Take Costco, for instance. The chain has already stocked its bakery with pumpkin pies. At just $5.99 for a huge 58-ounce pie, it's a steal, and almost no one is complaining about the quality. They are freshly made in-house with a flaky crust and a signature recipe. The only problem for some folks is that it's just too darn soon. Costco previously released its pies in September but has since moved that date up to late August, which seems to have stuck. "Too early!" commented one Instagram user. This year, the pies came out about a week sooner than last.

Still, even as some social media users are complaining about the prematureness of pumpkin, quite a few are nonetheless heading to their local Costco to get a pie of their own. In fact, the Costco website is already reporting sellouts and shortages of the item. Shoppers are seeming to overcome their aversion to the precipitous start of the season in favor of a good-tasting pie. Fans of this Costco favorite have posted comments on Instagram like, "First pumpkin pie sighting and it's August 22nd. Woohooo, I'm here for this!" and "Yassss, I grabbed it. Couldn't resist."

The fall season and its various pumpkin-flavored sidekicks seem to turn up a little bit earlier each year — a concept some refer to as "pumpkin creep." Costco is not the only one to put a rush on pumpkin spice this year. Tomorrow, August 25, Starbucks will be introducing its Pumpkin Spice Latte for 2026. Not to let the coffee gods beat everyone to the punch, IHOP's new fall-inspired breakfast was also released today.
