The Frozen Pizza Every '90s Kid Begged Mom And Dad To Stock Up On

Tamagotchis, POGs, flannel shirts, and ripped jeans — nostalgia was around every corner in the 1990s. Along with jelly shoes and all the discontinued '90s soda flavors that now only exist as warm and fuzzy memories is a sentimental microwaveable snack that defined an era for many millennials and even Gen Xers. Tombstone once sold six packs of individually wrapped deep-dish pizzas that would help tide kids and teens over until dinner. They were a beloved staple in many '90s households, but sadly, they haven't been seen in the frozen pizza section of the grocery store for years now.

In the subreddit r/nostalgia, folks reminisce about the memories the iconic frozen pizza induce. "2024 and I want these back so bad, if I think hard enough, I can still kinda remember the taste," one person bemoaned. Another comment came from someone who is still optimistic that Tombstone Deep Dish personal pizzas will make a triumphant return to the frozen section one day. "June 2026. Still waiting."

A comeback is, of course, a possibility, but it might be a long shot. An ongoing petition on Change.org intends to pressure Nestle, which owns the Tombstone brand, to summon the old-school pizzas from the graveyard of discontinued '90s snacks we miss. One of the forlorn comments in the petition's feed says, "I have been craving these for years now and it breaks my heart that I can't fulfill that craving." While there is a thread of hope that the petition will succeed, folks who want a bite of nostalgia now will have to look elsewhere to pacify their longing for Tombstone mini pizzas.

Potential stand-ins for Tombstone's frozen pizzas

Unfortunately, Tombstone doesn't sell deep dish pizza at all these days, mini or otherwise. Overall, options for mini deep-dish pies are somewhat scant across all brands. However, there are a couple of products out there that might satisfy a craving for the discontinued Tombstone product.

While they don't come in a six-pack, Uno makes 6-inch deep-dish frozen pizzas in packs of two. Both Chicago-style pies are made with marinara sauce, with one featuring pepperoni and the other plain cheese (if those choices aren't enough, you can always use your own toppings on frozen pizza). The product has a respectable 3.9 rating out of 5 at Walmart, but there is one caveat that might put some folks off buying this as a Tombstone sub: There are no microwave instructions. Instead of letting Chef Mic do the work as he did in the '90s, you'll have to preheat the oven like an adult to get your fix. I know, lame.

If being able to microwave your pie is a dealbreaker, Red Baron's personal frozen pizzas might be more to your liking. Microwaving instructions are right on the box, and the product enjoys an even better rating than Uno with 4.6 stars on Walmart's website. There are a few varieties available, like cheese, pepperoni, supreme, and three-meat. With any of these mini deep-dish pies, measure your expectations — it probably won't be the same as the iconic Tombstone pizzas of old — but it may serve as a worthy approximation that will scratch that nostalgic itch when it arises.
