Costco Is Finally Doing That One Thing Everyone Has Been Begging For
Of all the things customers hate about shopping at Costco, fighting through mobs of people in-store to get everything on their grocery lists has to be number one. And don't get shoppers started on dealing with the nightmare that is Costco's parking lot. It doesn't stop folks from returning to battle the crowds for affordable Kirkland Signature merchandise, but thanks to the latest news from DoorDash, that's about to change.
Starting today, Costco is an available retailer on the DoorDash app. Customers have been hoping for this partnership for some time — the big-box store is one of the most frequently searched retailers on the delivery app. DoorDash has already been delivering Costco goods to homes in countries such as Australia, Iceland, and Sweden, and now the U.S. is finally getting in on the action.
After locating their nearest store, members of the discount warehouse can link their active membership to the app and start shopping over 4,000 Costco products for same-day delivery. Unfortunately for non-members, this isn't a clever workaround for avoiding the $65 cost of becoming a member. Folks who haven't taken the plunge will be prompted to follow a link to Costco's website to get on the membership bandwagon before they can place an order. As an incentive to do so, Costco and DoorDash are boasting special deals only members can take advantage of for a short time.
DoorDash and Costco are celebrating with savings
In commemoration of the long-awaited partnership, both Costco and DoorDash are giving customers a chance to save a little extra for a limited time. Through November 1 of this year, members who order $100 or more before fees and taxes via the DoorDash app can get 20% off their bill by entering code COSTCO20. The discount maxes out at $50, and there may be restrictions based on local laws for alcohol purchases. Still, 20% off pantry staples, electronics, and Costco's wildly popular rotisserie chickens is nothing to turn your nose up at.
Folks who aren't planning to order as many groceries or household essentials are getting an opportunity to save as well. DoorDash is waiving its delivery fee for DashPass members who place an order for $60 or more. An active DashPass membership is required, and taxes, service fees, and gratuity will still show up on the bill.
Costco members have a lot to be excited about with this new partnership, and DoorDash is enthusiastic about it too. With Costco on board, the company now delivers groceries for eight major food retailers in the United States. Commenting on the latest cooperation with the warehouse, the vice president of enterprise partnerships at DoorDash, Mike Goldblatt, said, "Costco members have been asking for Costco on DoorDash, and today we're delivering. By pairing Costco's quality, value and selection with DoorDash's reach and local delivery network, we're giving members more flexibility in how they shop."
