Taco Bell Fans Have Spoken: This Global Taco Is Coming To The US

Taco Bell has long had both fan-favorites and menu items employees recommend avoiding (which, ironically, may coincide), but it doesn't usually afford customers direct influence over what those products will be. The chain recently held a vote among Taco Bell Rewards Members to decide between two Global Tacos it was considering offering American customers, and the results are in. People can now look forward to trying the new Butter Chicken Taco at a Taco Bell location near them.

The latest brainchild from Taco Bell takes one of India's cherished culinary accomplishments and turns it into a sort of fusion dish. Shredded chicken slow-roasted in a tomato cream sauce with seasonings representative of Indian cuisine will be the star of the dish accompanied by lettuce, onion, cilantro, and cheddar cheese. It features a bit of crunch factor with a fried chalupa shell holding the whole thing together. Wash it down with one of Taco Bell's dirty sodas for what will undoubtedly be a palate-pleasing fast food experience.

There's no word on exactly when folks can start ordering the Butter Chicken Taco, so fans should keep their heads on a swivel for the near future. It will only be on the menu for a limited time while supplies last, and judging from how decisively this taco beat out the competition in the vote, people are going to be clamoring for it as soon as it hits the menu.

Taco Bell's India-inspired taco won hands down

Taco Bell Rewards Members had one week to make their voices heard in the chain's Global Taco vote, and that's all the time it took to see a clear winner emerge. The alternative choice was Thailand's Kickin' Chicken Taco, which I have to assume featured some fiery Thai spices. But after just one week, a whopping 64% of people who voted had opted for the India-inspired taco, making it the first Global Taco the company will spotlight in a campaign to give American customers a taste of fare from around the world.

Taco Bell has allowed fans to vote on menu items in the past, but never for an international menu item to be brought to the United States. Back in 2022, for example, the fast food chain let its fans decide whether the Double Decker Taco or the Enchirito would return to the menu, and the Double Decker Taco won.

The fast food trend of including customer choice in menu options was adopted by Burger King for its "Whopper by You" program (although our reviewer who tried the latest Peppercorn BLT Whopper was less than impressed). Whatever inspired Taco Bell to put these particular items to a vote, suffice it to say the majority of fans are happy with the results. The company plans to unveil new international flavors in the future, and one can only guess what it will come up with next. If Taco Bell continues to give customers control over what the chain offers, it's sure to create some winners.
