Taco Bell's New Taco Tuesday Deal Is Actually Pretty Good

At this point, combo deals are the only real way to save money at Taco Bell.

Fast food has pretty much lost its reputation for being budget-friendly these days (good luck finding a value meal for under $10), so when we see deals, we pounce on them. Now that Taco Bell has the freedom to use the term "Taco Tuesday," it's taking that opportunity to run a promotional blitz, and it's announced that it'll be featuring a new meal deal on Tuesdays only, all for a cool $5.

That's nice on paper, but what does it actually get you? The new deal, called the Taco Discovery Box, nets you a Cantina Chicken Crispy Taco (including a packet of the Avocado Verde Salsa), two classic tacos of your choice, and a medium fountain drink. The classic taco selection includes the Doritos Locos Taco, which normally costs more a la carte than the standard crispy or soft versions, and the Crunchy Taco. Supreme versions of any of the tacos come at an upcharge, but that's not a new practice.

How much money does Taco Bell’s Taco Discovery Box save you?

To see just how much of a savings that is, I replicated an a la carte version of that exact order online, and for one Cantina Chicken Crispy Taco, one Doritos Locos Taco, and one Crunchy Taco, along with a medium drink, the total would have ordinarily run me $11.16, pre-tax. That's more than twice the price of the Taco Discovery Box, so, yes, if you're a Taco Bell taco fan, this is a screaming deal.

If you want to maximize your savings, you can order two Doritos Locos Tacos in your Discovery Box, which would ordinarily cost $12.26 at my nearest location when the items are selected individually. That's an even better deal. The Taco Tuesday promotion isn't permanent and runs from today through June 4, which means you've got a decent amount of time to take advantage of it.

As we all know these days, the real key to saving money with fast food is by taking advantage of promotions, especially at Taco Bell. Otherwise, at face value, aside from the Cravings Value Menu, prices can be laughable. Like, $7.79 for the Nachos BellGrande? A $6.09 cheese quesadilla? Seriously? At least in this case, $5 for a meal deal is something we can actually say is pretty good, so get it while you can.
