  • Matt believes vodka martinis are an abomination and has recently fallen in love with the elegance of the Perfect Manhattan.
  • He is plotting an attempt to cook every sheet-pan dinner recipe published on the NYT Cooking site.
  • Matt enjoys interviewing authors while sharing a drink, as he did with author Reid Mitenbuler while discussing the history of bourbon in a random Brooklyn bar.

Experience

Matt spent more than twenty years teaching, serving as a school administrator, and helping edtech startups scale. Whether his years teaching inspired his love of cocktails remains an open question. He has also worked as a copywriter for a Brooklyn design studio, sold guitars in Palo Alto, and managed a restaurant in Dublin, Ireland. His writing has appeared in War on the Rocks, McSweeney's Internet Tendency, Time-Life Books, and Modern Drunkard. In 2017, Matt published his first book, "Unsinkable: The History of Boston Whaler," an in-depth exploration of the 60-year history of the most iconic brand in boating. He currently lives in Los Angeles.

Education

Matt has a bachelor's degree in history from Lafayette College in Easton, PA.
