Shopper Spies Giant Piles Of Unpackaged Raw Meat In Grocery Carts
We are on record as loving Costco, but this latest news even makes fans like us kind of queasy. A consumer at 99 Ranch Market in San Jose, California, saw some delivery vendors using the large Costco shopping carts to deliver raw meat, posting the stomach-churning sight in what else, a Facebook post:
While the meat was delivered to 99 Ranch Market, not Costco, it's impossible to tell if those carts were wiped down afterward (shudder).
NBC's Bay Area affiliate reports that the incident has unsurprisingly prompted an investigation by the Santa Clara Department of Environmental Health. 99 Ranch Market says that it has consequently dumped all of the meat by the vendor, Jim's Farm Meat. A spokesperson from that company told the Modesto Bee that it is "thoroughly investigating the incident. This isn't anything we typically do. When we send our products out, they are always in a combo bin and wrapped. That's how it left our facility," making the giant piles of raw meat in Costco carts even more of a mystery.
Meanwhile, NBC Bay Area "has reached out Costco for comment and has yet to hear a response."
