Last Call: A Salute To Ricky Jay, The Greatest Card Handler Of Our Time
Gravity Falls
Exciting news: The DVD set of Gravity Falls has just been released on Shout Factory, and it is probably my favorite series watch with my kids of all time: "Twin brother and sister Dipper and Mabel Pines are sent to the small town of Gravity Falls, Oregon to spend their summer vacation with their great uncle ("Grunkle") Stan. Upon arrival, Grunkle Stan enlists the siblings' help in running The Mystery Shack, a self-owned tourist trap that overcharges unsuspecting customers... But there may be more to Gravity Falls than meets the eye as Dipper and Mabel encounter strange occurrences and weird creatures." When it was still on Disney XD, I called it, a "criminally underappreciated chunk of insane animation backed by a heartfelt and often-hilarious family saga." I still stand by this opinion, and will rush to purchase this set. [Gwen Ihnat]
Ricky Jay and His 52 Assistants
Ricky Jay, who some would say is among the greatest sleight-of-hand technician and card handler of our time, stars in this 1996 HBO special of his wildly successful Off-Broadway show. Set an hour aside for his, seriously. [Kevin Pang]
