Killjoys Want To Add Cancer Warning To Coffee, Our Last Remaining Source Of Happiness

One of the few joys we have left in life is the fact that coffee—a beverage we find it necessary to consume daily—has some health benefits. Sure, it may be slowly burrowing a hole in our stomach lining, but it also has been tied to lower risks for liver cirrhosis or liver cancer, cardiovascular disease, and Alzheimer's.

Because nothing gold can stay, a group in California now wants to slap a warning label on our beloved favorite beverage. Business Insider reports that The Council For Education And Research On Toxics has filed a lawsuit that would penalize companies that "don't warn customers that coffee contains acrylamide, a chemical that California lists as one 'known to cause cancer.'" Although some studies have shown that putting acrylamide in drinking water can give rats and mice cancer, "the doses they consumed in those studies are 1,000 to 100,000 times the amount people get through their diet."

So far, no studies have "found any harmful connection between consumption of foods containing acrylamide and various common cancers" in people. So this lawsuit seems a bit premature, to say the least. C'mon, just let us have this one, okay?
