- While he lived in Tokyo, Michael's love of sushi only grew, and the best he ever had was in a stall near the famed Tsukiji Fish Market. He harbors the illusion that one day he will dine at Jiro Ono's restaurant in Ginza.
- His first job was as a dishwasher, his second as a short-order cook. Both experiences make him appreciate the hard work and skill behind every dish that comes out of the kitchen.
- A long-time resident of Los Angeles, Michael now lives in the Bay Area where he hopes to indulge more easily in wine tours through Napa and Sonoma.
