Murray Bros. Caddyshack Restaurant Serves Potato Golf Balls And A Pool Water Martini

It's not often that you get to totally immerse yourself in your favorite movie through a restaurant. But for some lucky fans, the Brothers Murray have set up a veritable shrine to one of Bill and Brian Doyle's most famous films: the wacky 1980 comedy Caddyshack. As the website states, "Murray Bros. Caddyshack captures the Murray family's love for the game of golf and presents it in a way that appeals to everyday golfers and families."

Although the first Murray Bros. Caddyshack opened in 2001 in World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Florida, the Murray brothers decided to find a new anchor closer to their hometown of Chicago. The new restaurant is located in the Crown Plaza Hotel in Rosemont, just outside of the city and near O'Hare. Bill, Andy, and Joel Murray showed up this week for opening, making all the local media rounds. Bill Murray explained to the Chicago Tribune that the movie was based on the brothers' experiences growing up; for example, he caddied at Indian Hill Club in Winnetka. "It's informed by the way we grew up, as working kids. The films [movie posters] on the wall are the result of the work ethic you learned as a caddie. I think everybody should caddie. You learn a lot of about how to treat people and how you like to be treated. It was the most informative education."

Alongside the movie posters and vast amounts of sports memorabilia on the restaurant walls, signage includes classic Caddyshack quotes like, "If you guys want to be replaced by golf carts, just keep it up!", "So I got that going for me, which is nice," and of course, "No Fighting, No Spitting, No Drinking, No Gambling, No Bare Feet."

We smell a Takeout staff field trip! After all, who wouldn't want to check out the golf-themed menu (with headings like "The Tee-Off," "The Fairway") with items like "Crispy Potato Golf Balls: lightly fried garlic mashed potatoes loaded with cheddar cheese and bacon served with signature horseradish dipping sauce." Or "Shack Shrimp: eight succulent shrimp fried to perfection served with cocktail sauce and crinkle cut french fries," just like the guys at the shack maybe used to have. There's even a "Chicago Blues Burger," in a nice nod to a few of Murray's former SNL castmates. But the pièce de résistance may be the "Pool Water Martini: chocolate vodka, Frangelico, blue curacao, and a Baby Ruth candy bar." Harsh.

One thing though: If our server doesn't say, "You'll get nothing and like it," we're going to be extremely disappointed.
